“Know yourself to know the other; know the other to know yourself”: this is the principle that drives the course, which is aimed at both visiting students from abroad and those who have been raised and educated in Germany.

As an international student, you will acquire an understanding of the values, norms, practices and institutions of contemporary German society and by implication a perhaps different understanding of those of the country you were brought up and educated in.

If you were raised and educated in Germany, you will acquire a better understanding about what exactly makes Germany and the Germans tick and how they tick.

The course methods will feature lecture, presentations, critical incident analysis, role play, reading and discussions / debates.

Students should be aware that they will be expected to read and understand a short text in English in preparation for each class in addition to doing the work required to acquire 2 or 3 ECTS points. How you can do that we will discuss in class.

This course takes place on Wednesdays from 5:30-7 pm in M203 and starts on March 20.
