SET2 Communication and Intercultural competence

Course participants develop their individual conflict management competency in international contexts through a mixture of theoretical input and practical learning experiences. Class participants will be interculturally mixed.

In total there will be 8 classroom meetings. Besides classroom meetings this course requires several extra meetings among the international student teams as well as self-learning video lessons and homework. The final exam will be team presentations.

8 classroom sessions on mondays), 8:00-9:30 individual review of 2 video lessons

weekly meetings in interculturally mixed student teams (discussions of assignments)

individual reflection diary about intercultural experiences during the student team meetings

final team presentation

Teaching content: Theories and models of intercultural communication and psychology of communication, experience of and reflection on real-life conflict situations in international contexts.

Teaching method: Theoretical input, group work in international teams, intercultural exercises and case studies, supervised self-reflection and individual intercultural coaching by the teachers

Teaching goals: Develop awareness about misperceptions and reasons for conflicts in intercultural communication, gain basic knowledge about models of intercultural communication and conflict management, train practical communication skills in conflict situations through first-hand experiences in international team work.
